Hours before news broke that the Bills were sending Stefon Diggs to the Houston Texans, the receiver heaved some social media shade at his quarterback, Josh Allen.

if you missed the Wednesday morning news, multiple reports say that Buffalo is finalizing a trade to send Diggs to Houston. The Texans receive Diggs, a sixth-round pick for next month’s draft, plus a fifth-rounder for next year. In return, the Bills get a second-round pick, which the Texans initially received in an earlier trade with the Vikings, in next year’s draft.

We’re assuming Diggs is happy to be moving from Upstate New York to Houston. He’ll be closer to his brother, Trevon Diggs, who plays for the Dallas Cowboys. There has been much speculation in regards to whether Stefon Diggs was content in Buffalo and whether he and Allen got along. A post on Tuesday suggested that the receiver and quarterback may have issues.

It all started with a post by ESPN personality Robert Griffin III, a one-time NFL quarterback and the 2011 Heisman Trophy winner. Griffin asked an Allen-Diggs related question last Saturday.

“Is Stefon Diggs essential to Josh Allen’s success?” Griffin asked. “He has been since he got to Buffalo in 2020, they are better together and if Stefon Diggs and Josh Allen stay together with the Buffalo Bills this year, their Championship window is WIDE OPEN.”

Well, we know the answer to part of that question now. If the trade goes through, Diggs won’t be essential to a Bills championship run this season. He won’t be there.

An X user who goes by the handle “Peaky Pirate” answered RGIII. He wrote “Does Josh benefit from having a top tier receiver, yes. Is he essential to his success, no.”

Stefon Diggs apparently was interested in the tweet because Tuesday night, he was answering the question. Diggs wrote: “You sure?” RG3, who was happy for the engagement, posted a gif with the comment “GET EM!”

Peaky Pirate took his comments private. But Diggs’ response caused an avalanche of comments, with lots of negative replies.

One person wrote: “Tweet when you can catch a pass in crunch time buddy!” Another fan, who posts under the name “BuffaloTed” wrote “Seems accurate, you disappeared the past few seasons in the second half. Then you top it off with dropping a 65 yard dime against KC. I don’t get you bro, (Josh Allen) says nothing but good things about you even when you screw the pooch. Why are you so douchey in return?”

There’s another relevant question, thanks to the trade. Will Stefon Diggs be essential to the success of C.J. Stroud?
