Stephon Gilmore 'recovering really well' from partially torn quad?

It appears Stephon Gilmore is progressing toward a return to the field.

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Gilmore is "recovering really well" from a partially torn quad that ended his 2020 season in December.

It seemed like the Patriots were going to trade Gilmore entering the offseason. However, now it looks like New England might try to extend him.

The 30-year-old is reportedly "very open" to signing an extension with the Patriots.

Gilmore is set to earn $7 million in base salary in 2021 after the Patriots borrowed from the final year of his contract last September to give him a preseason raise. That's well below market value for a star cornerback who was named Defensive Player of the Year in 2019.
