Super Bowl-winning coach gives Cowboys' Dak Prescott a huge vote of confidence

A Super Bowl-winning coach believes Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott can lead Dallas to the promised land.

"I don't think there's any question not," Mike Martz recently told KRLD-FM in Dallas. "There's just so many moving parts around him. So much of it has to do with getting it tight around the QB, and when that happens, then, you know, he can realize his full potential."

The Cowboys should take note because Martz, the former Rams OC and HC, created an offense nicknamed "The Greatest Show on Turf," which led the league in total offense from 1999 to 2001.

Prescott was abnormally inconsistent last season. In 12 starts, he threw a career-high 15 interceptions, tying for the league lead. He also posted the second-lowest passer rating (91.1) of his career.

However, not all blame should on Prescott since he fractured his right thumb in Week 1, requiring surgery. Also, the Cowboys traded star WR Amari Cooper to Cleveland, diminishing their depth at WR. Despite the challenges, Prescott led the Cowboys to their first road post-season victory since the 1992 playoffs.

Dallas traded for former Texans WR Brandin Cooks, who's had 1,000 receiving yards or more with four different teams. The deal for Cooks solves the WR problem because he complements CeeDee Lamb.

The Cowboys also parted ways with former OC Kellen Moore, handing play-calling duties to HC Mike McCarthy. Perhaps McCarthy's system — which relies on the short passing game instead of the downfield passing attack — will reduce Prescott's turnovers.

Nonetheless, it places more pressure on the Cowboys QB. He has fewer alibis after the flurry of offseason moves.

"It's a make-or-break year for Prescott," ESPN's Dan Orlovsky recently said on "Get Up."

Prescott faces more scrutiny in 2023, but the offseason changes could raise his game and prove supporters right.
