The attempted carjacking of Washington Commanders running back Brian Robinson last summer is now back in the news.
Appearing in D.C. Superior Court on Monday, an unnamed 15-year-old teenager admitted that he shot Robinson during the failed carjacking on Aug. 28.
“I was trying to get the man’s Hellcat. I wasn’t thinking. It was wrong,” the teen said, via The Washington Post.
A third-round pick out of Alabama last year, Robinson was shot just above the knee and in his hip area. In a shocking recovery, the young man was able to return and make his NFL debut with Washington back in Week 5. He performed extremely well in 12 games.
As for the 15-year-old teenager, he also pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter in the Oct. 3 killing of Andre Robertson, another teenager who was shot to death on his porch in D.C.
Another 17-year-old pleaded guilty to assault with a dangerous weapon and carrying a pistol without a license relating to the Robinson attempted carjacking.
Local authorities indicate that Brian Robinson attempted to run away. But the other teen (now 17) pursued him. Robinson then grabbed the teen and wrestled with him. The 15-year-old then fired his gun, hitting Robinson twice.
The youth is scheduled to be sentenced in March after pleading guilty on Monday. It’s likely that he’ll remain in the custody of the Department of Youth Rehabilitation Services until he turns 21.
