Terrell Owens explains why he punched man at CVS

There's more information about Pro Football Hall of Famer Terrell Owens punching a man outside of a CVS.

For a piece published Wednesday, Owens told the Associated Press that he acted in self-defense during an incident that occurred in Inglewood, California, late this past Saturday night. TMZ Sports previously reported that Owens was merely shopping at the store when he was approached by a San Francisco 49ers fan. Owens explained to the AP that a second man then "made offensive gestures and threatening statements" toward the former player and the fan.

Owens' attempts to make peace ended poorly for the third individual who got himself involved in what began as a seemingly pleasant interaction.

"The aggressor continued threatening the fan just as he did in the store," Owens remarked while speaking with the AP. "Once again, attempting to diffuse the ongoing situation, I placed myself between the fan and the aggressor. I made verbal demands asking the aggressor to stop his threatening behavior."

It was only after the non-fan swung at Owens that the 48-year-old "felt obligated to prevent the aggressor from becoming more violent" via a blow shared by TMZ. That punch appeared to end the confrontation.

The AP added that Inglewood police didn't respond when asked if officers were called to the scene on Saturday night.

Owens showed this past summer he allegedly can still run a sub-4.5-second 40-yard dash, and he still appears to be in excellent physical condition. If nothing else, shoppers should think twice before testing Owens' self-defense skills.

During his NFL career, Owens featured for the 49ers from 1996 through 2003.
