Terrelle Pryor wants to return to the NFL. Douglas DeFelice-USA TODAY Sports

Terrelle Pryor’s dreams of making big plays in the NFL nearly came to an end last year when he was stabbed in November. Now, the former Ohio State star and NFL quarterback/receiver is working his way toward a comeback.

Pryor, a third-round pick in the 2011 NFL Supplemental Draft, began his professional career as a quarterback with the Oakland Raiders. After three seasons in Oakland, followed by brief stays with the Seattle Seahawks, Kansas City Chiefs and Cincinnati Bengals, he spent the next two years playing wide receiver for the Cleveland Browns.

Everything seemed to come together for Pryor in a breakout 2016 season in Cleveland. He finished with 77 receptions for 1,007 receiving yards, then signed a one-year contract for $8 million with Washington.

After bouncing around the league with Washington, the Buffalo Bills and New York Jets, recording only 492 yards across two seasons, he signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2019 but was placed on injured reserve in August.

Since recovering from the stabbing, Pryor has been working his way towards an NFL return. With training camp approaching, the former Ohio State standout quarterback told TMZ he is on the comeback trail and has talked to multiple NFL teams.

The 31-year-old receiver said he’s worked like a maniac to prepare for the upcoming season, and he’s spoken with five NFL clubs, including the New England Patriots. If it were up to him, though, he’d love to play with Cam Newton or Ben Roethlisberger.

It’s far from a certainty that Pryor even gets a contract offer before training camp begins, given how long it’s been since he was productive. If he can prove he is still an explosive athlete, though, perhaps his NFL days aren’t quite over.
