Keeping wide receiver Terry McLaurin was a priority for the Washington Commanders.

He was already in the final year of his rookie contract and is not eligible for a fifth-year option.

Likewise, it isn’t wise to let go of a young wideout that averaged 1,030 receiving yards throughout his first three seasons.

For that reason, both parties agreed to a three-year, $71 million contract extension which includes $53.1 million in guaranteed money.

The Commanders have no choice but to pay a premium after the wideout market surged this offseason.

The deals signed by Tyreek Hill and Davante Adams raised the ceiling for top talent in the position.

That’s why McLaurin benefitted by making bank.

More importantly, the Commanders and McLaurin have officially signed his three-year contract.

Before signing on the dotted line, his teammate Jonathan Allen already congratulated McLaurin on his blessing.

He also penned a thanksgiving message for everyone who has helped him become the player that he is.

A Quick Glance At McLaurin’s NFL Career (So Far)

Washington drafted him in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft, 75 spots after top overall selection Kyler Murray.

The team banked on his potential after finishing his final year at Ohio State with 701 yards and 11 touchdowns.

He was only 81 yards shy of the 1,000-yard mark during his rookie year and had seven touchdown catches.

Still, that was enough to include him in the Pro Football Writers Association’s All-Rookie Team.

In year two, he had 1,118 yards and four touchdowns.

Last season, McLaurin completed the campaign with 1,053 yards and five touchdowns.

Now that he will remain with the squad for at least four more seasons, “Scary Terry” will have a chance to sustain or surpass his recent production.
