Houston Texans Steven Nelson has missed voluntary OTAs this offseason, but per Aaron Wilson, Nelson should be back to attend mandatory minicamp this week.

According to Wilson, Nelson has switched agents, hiring Athletes First's David Mulugheta who represents a number of top-level defensive backs in the league.

It was reported late last month that Nelson was intending to switch agents and he is positioning himself for a new contract, but that report was deleted not long after being posted.

Nelson is playing 2023 on a team-friendly deal in the final year of a two-year, $10 million contract he signed last offseason.

Heading into his ninth year in the NFL, the veteran has bounced around the league after being drafted by the Chiefs in the third round out of Oregon. He finished his four-year rookie contract in 2018 and signed a three-year, $25 million deal with the Steelers, but was released in 2021. He then signed a one-year deal with the Eagles, then came to the Texans prior to the 2022 season.

Last season, Nelson played 15 games for Houston registering 52 tackles, one tackle for loss, one sack, one forced fumble, one interception and seven pass deflections. Pro Football Focus had him graded as the No. 46 cornerback out of 118 qualifying players.
