Texans DE Jerry Hughes laments $5,000 fine for violation of NFL's Uniform and Equipment Rules
Houston Texans defensive lineman Jerry Hughes was issued a fine of $5,305 this week for violation of the NFL's Uniform and Equipment Rules. Hughes took to Twitter Friday afternoon to share the notice he received and express his strong displeasure with the punishment.
After spending the last nine seasons with the Buffalo Bills, the 34-year-old Sugar Land, Texas, native returned to his home state when he signed with the Texans in May. During his final season in Western New York, Hughes recorded 18 combined tackles, seven quarterback hits, three passes defended, two forced fumbles and 2.0 sacks.
In his debut with Houston in Week 1 -- a 20-20 tie against the Indianapolis Colts -- he had a monster performance with three combined tackles, two quarterback hits, 2.0 sacks, one pass defended, one forced fumble and just his second career interception. Hughes was selected by the Colts in the first round of the 2010 NFL Draft at 31st overall.
