Texans exploring possible uniform change, ask input from fans
The Houston Texans are exploring a uniform change for 2023 and are asking fans for input.
The team's website posted the news Thursday night with a link to a survey for fans to express their opinions on the Texans' next uniforms. According to Houston, focus groups, fans, Texans legends and the players themselves will have a say in the direction the team goes regarding "color, jersey and helmet design."
Ahead of the 2022 season, Texans CEO and chair Cal McNair confirmed the team's interest in a possible uniform change during a Reddit AMA (Ask Me Anything) session, and he revealed that Houston had "already engaged" the NFL about the process.
Appearing on Sports Radio 610 in Houston, Doug Vosik, the senior vice president of marketing and communications for the Texans, said that the team had already begun working with the NFL to discuss the process of a uniform change. He added that the Texans' addition of the "Battle Red" helmet helped push the idea for change.
"It gave us the confidence to explore new grounds," Vosik said, via the Texans' official website. "We're finally at the phase where we can get those opinions through surveys and focus groups."
The Texans haven't changed their uniform significantly since beginning play as an expansion team in 2002. As of late, the product on the field hasn't given Texans fans much to cheer about, so perhaps the distraction of new uniforms will help them get over the team's NFL-worst 2-12 record.
