Texans GM Nick Caserio noncommittal on HC David Culley's 2022 status

At 2-10, the Houston Texans are the only NFL team that has already been mathematically eliminated from the 2021 NFL playoffs.

What does that mean for the future first-year head coach David Culley? Nothing yet, according to Texans general manager Nick Caserio.

With former franchise quarterback Deshaun Watson in a heap of legal trouble all year and Houston icon J.J. Watt signing with the Arizona Cardinals in the offseason, expectations for the Texans coming into this season were exceptionally low. The organization perhaps had a glimmer of hope for 2021 after taking down the divisional foe Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 1, but an eight-game losing streak quickly erased any thoughts of a miracle season.

The 66-year-old Culley began his coaching career at the college level in 1978 and joined the NFL ranks in 1994. Prior to landing his first lead gig with Houston this year, Culley was an assistant in some capacity with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Pittsburgh Steelers, Philadelphia Eagles, Kansas City Chiefs, Buffalo Bills and Baltimore Ravens.

If the Texans have any chance of finishing the campaign on a strong note, their best shot likely comes over the next two weeks, when they host the Seattle Seahawks (4-8) and visit the Jaguars (2-10).
