Texans GM says praise organization is getting is a 'bunch of garbage'

Houston Texans general manager Nick Caserio said on Thursday that praise the organization is receiving following a surprisingly good 2023 campaign and monster offseason is "kind of laughable" and a "bunch of garbage."

The Texans have made huge additions to their roster in recent weeks.

Among the biggest moves were trading for four-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Stefon Diggs and 2021 Pro Bowl running back Joe Mixon and signing four-time Pro Bowl linebacker Danielle Hunter, former All-Pro punter Tommy Townsend and others.

This came after Houston stunned the NFL by winning the AFC South at 10-7 last season and blew out the Cleveland Browns in the AFC wild-card round. The Texans' season ended with a 34-10 loss to the Baltimore Ravens in the divisional round, but the consensus takeaway was that the franchise was on the rise.

Houston won only 11 games across three seasons from 2020-22 and finished with an AFC-worst 3-13-1 mark two years ago.

Caserio and company hired DeMeco Ryans as the team's new head coach on Jan. 31, 2023, and selected two-time Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year C.J. Stroud with the second overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. The Texans then capped their huge first round by grabbing two-time SEC Defensive Player of the Year Will Anderson with the third overall selection.

Stroud and Anderson were both rookie Pro Bowlers and earned AP Offensive and Defensive Rookie of the Year honors, respectively.

Caserio is right that it's too soon to crown his team as back-to-back division champions, but there's no reason not to be optimistic in Houston.
