Texans HC David Culley names QB Davis Mills starter for rest of season

With his team having already been mathematically eliminated from playoff contention, Houston Texans head coach David Culley is looking towards the future.

Mills was selected in the third round of the 2021 NFL Draft by the Texans and began the year as the backup to Tyrod Taylor. After "T-Mobile" went down with a hamstring injury in Week 2, Mills was summoned for duty.

The rookie signal-caller was under center during the first seven games of the team's eight-game losing streak from Week 2 through Week 8, but Taylor jumped back into action for Week 9. After the team's bye week, Taylor helped Houston end the skid with a Week 11 upset of the Tennessee Titans.

Taylor continued as the starter in Week 12 but was benched in the third quarter of the team's Week 13 contest against the Indianapolis Colts.

On the year, Mills has a record of 0-6 and has completed 146-of-223 passes (65.5%) for 1,406 yards and seven touchdowns against eight interceptions. Taylor has a 2-4 mark and has completed 91-of-150 passes (60.7%) for 966 yards and five touchdowns against five interceptions.

Mills has rushed nine times for just 19 yards, while Taylor has 19 rushing attempts for 151 yards and three touchdowns.
