The Houston Texans already boast one of the NFL’s most impressive receiving duos with Nico Collins and Tank Dell, but could they still pursue fellow wide receiver Mike Evans in free agency this offseason?
Cody Benjamin of CBS Sports thinks so.
Benjamin is projecting that Evans will sign with the Texans this spring, noting that Evans is originally from Texas and that Tom Brady would likely put a good word in for C.J. Stroud, with whom Brady has developed a relationship.
Evans is coming off of a 2023 campaign with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in which he played in every game and hauled in 79 receptions for 1,255 yards and a league-leading 13 touchdowns en route to his fifth Pro Bowl selection.
It also marked Evans’ 10th straight 1,000-yard season.
The 30-year-old, who played his collegiate football at Texas A&M, was selected by the Buccaneers with the seventh overall pick of the 2014 NFL Draft.
It didn’t take Evans long to establish himself one of the game’s best wide outs, as he caught 68 passes for 1,051 yards and 12 scores during his rookie campaign.
Evans has spent his entire career to date in Tampa Bay, with his best season coming in 2018 when he snared 86 balls for 1,524 yards and eight touchdowns.
The Galveston, Tx. native has never notched First-Team All-Pro honors, but he has earned two Second Team All-Pro selections, including this season.
Houston is going into the offseason with significant cap room, so it can certainly afford to add Evans into its already impressive stable of receivers.
A trio of Evans, Collins and Dell would be tantalizing, especially with Stroud throwing them the football.
We’ll see if the Texans do end up making a serious push for Mike Evans in about a month-and-a-half.
