Houston Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud landed in concussion protocol after he left his team’s game against the New York Jets last Sunday, and it does not sound like he will be cleared in time for Week 15.

Stroud remained sidelined at practice on Friday. Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 reports that Stroud is “making steady progress and feeling a lot better” but will not play against the Tennessee Titans on Sunday.

It is still technically possible for Stroud to clear concussion protocol before Sunday, though it is very unlikely. Derek Carr started for the New Orleans Saints last week despite still being in concussion protocol in the days leading up, but he was able to practice on Friday before the game.

Stroud took a big hit in the fourth quarter of last Sunday’s 30-6 loss to the Jets. His head appeared to bounce off the turf on the play.

Stroud has been outstanding in his rookie season with Houston. The former Ohio State star is second in the NFL with 3,631 yards. He has 20 touchdown passes compared to just five interceptions.

The Texans are 7-6 heading into their Week 15 game and have surprised many people by remaining in the playoff hunt. They will turn to backup Davis Mills if Stroud cannot play.
