Texans QB Deshaun Watson has ankle, calf injuries

The latest twist in the ongoing saga involving Houston Texans star quarterback Deshaun Watson came Tuesday when the 25-year-old missed practice for what was first an undisclosed reason.

According to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, it's now known the signal-caller, who wishes to be traded by Houston and who is facing 22 lawsuits alleging acts of sexual assault and misconduct and 10 criminal complaints, is dealing with ankle and calf injuries but has attended quarterback meetings.

"He’s been a great asset for us in the room and some of the stuff we do, how he sees it and how he sees the intent of the plays," Texans offensive coordinator Tim Kelly said of Watson on Wednesday. "It’s been great. He’s been very helpful with those players. Again, we’re doing a good job of keeping him engaged and going through some different stuff with him. He’s been good for those players."

As expected, veteran Tyrod Taylor is taking first-team snaps, and Kelly added the team is getting fellow quarterbacks Davis Mills and Jeff Driskel "ready to go."

Meanwhile, it was reported Tuesday that Watson’s camp is preparing for a grand jury proceeding linked with the criminal investigation into the many allegations made against the quarterback. It's widely expected Watson would immediately be placed on the commissioner's exempt list if he's indicted, and that likely is preventing teams from trading for his services this summer.
