The Houston Texans have played surprisingly competitive football through the first six quarters of the Tyrod Taylor era.

Called on to replace Deshaun Watson under center, Taylor led Houston to an impressive Week 1 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars. He also had Houston tied up at the half against the Cleveland Browns on Sunday — completing 10-of-11 passes for 125 yards with two total touchdowns.

Unfortunately, Tyrod Taylor injured his hamstring on a 15-yard touchdown to toward the end of the second quarter. The former Pro Bowler did not join the rest of his team coming out of the locker room in the third quarter and was replaced by rookie third-round pick Davis Mills.

Immediately after, Taylor was ruled out for the remainder of the game.

Impact of Tyrod Taylor injury on the Houston Texans

There’s no telling whether Mills is anywhere near ready to take snaps in a regular-season game. He was seen as a project coming out of Stanford this past spring.

Even more so than Sunday’s game, this could have wide-ranging ramifications for a surprising Texans team. They are set to take on impressive Carolina Panthers quarterback Sam Darnold on a short week this coming Thursday.

Obviously, there’s going to be some concern over the extent of the injury and what this means for Watson moving forward. Remember, the Pro Bowl signal caller has been a healthy inactive the first two weeks of the season after he requested a trade during the offseason. Watson is also facing allegations of sexual assault and/or misconduct from north of 20 women.

As for Tyrod Taylor, he had tallied four total touchdowns compared to zero interceptions this season before going down to injury.
