Right now, there’s a chance that free-agent signing Tyrod Taylor could be the Houston Texans’ starting quarterback depending on what happens with Deshaun Watson after north of 20 women came forward with sexual assault allegations.

At the very least, Houston might have found a long-term replacement with its first pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. Selecting 67th overall, the Texans opted for former Stanford quarterback Davis Mills.

Mills threw just two passes over the course of his first two seasons with Stanford. With that said, he took on a starting role in 2019 and has been on an upward trajectory within the NFL Draft scouting community ever since. The prototypical 6-foot-4 signal-caller has completed north of 65% of his passes over the past two seasons — displaying an incredibly strong arm in the process.

The issue with the Houston Texans taking Mills in the third round is the fact that he started just 11 games in college. That’s a lower number than first-round picks Trey Lance and Mac Jones, who had that as a focal point in regard to their standing leading up to the draft.

Mills ranked 70th in our big board leading up to the 2021 NFL Draft.
