Sunday’s action didn’t end how Houston Texans fans had hoped, but it was one heck of a ride.

Rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud led a go-ahead drive in the game’s final minutes. Although a Younghoe Koo field goal would end their day with a loss, 21-19, it’s difficult not to feel optimistic about the state of affairs.

Stroud once again impressed, especially late. Fans weren’t the only ones moved by the performance, though. Houston receiver Robert Woods took the time after the loss to detail the Texans’ final drive and what it meant for his quarterback.

“I feel like C.J. is a poised person and a poised player and quarterback,” Woods said. “That moment wasn’t big for him at all.”

Whether it be taking on titans of the SEC in the College Football Playoffs or attempting game-winning drives in his first professional season, Stroud has proven to his teammates at every level that he won’t flinch when the lights are brightest.

That’s a pretty good trait to have in a franchise quarterback.

Woods was targeted nine times on Sunday but hauled in just three passes for 30 yards. One of those was a critical 12-yard grab on the not-so-fateful drive. Despite the lack of production, he remained high on Stroud.

“Being able to get in the huddle and anticipate what their defense was gonna be and communicate with Dalton and all the receivers in there and it actually played out how we thought it would,” Woods continued. “I think it’s super huge of team chemistry and our team playing together, being able to trust each other and communicate, and play for each other.”

It hasn’t taken long for Stroud to win over this roster. If Woods’ comments aren’t enough, the opinions of head coach DeMeco Ryans, any of his linemen, or receiver Nico Collins should be.

The Texans have a gamer under center, and they know it. Putting that late-game performance together for a full four quarters will be key in coming away from Week 6’s contest with the New Orleans Saints back in the win column.
