It looks like Jonathan Gannon isn’t done toying with the emotions of Eagles fans. As reported by Tom Pelissero, Gannon has hired Eagles LB Coach Nick Rallis to be the Cardinals’ defensive coordinator.
Rallis was a big fan favorite as he took a position group that was the franchise’s weakest for several years and turned them into a strength of the defense. Much can be said about the development of Eagles LB TJ Edwards under Nick Rallis.
TJ Edwards had back-to-back breakout seasons under Nick Rallis. Last season, Edwards finished with 159 tackles 10 tackles for loss, 5 QB hits, and 2 sacks. With Rallis heading to Arizona, I can’t help but wonder if the Cardinals try and sign Edwards to a long-term deal.
Nick Rallis is now also the youngest Defensive Coordinator to ever be hired in the NFL. At 29 years old, many around the league view Rallis as the defensive version of LA Rams head coach, Sean McVay. With a promising career ahead of him, it looks like Philadelphia is now on the clock to fill several coaching positions before the start of Free Agency in March
What’s next for the Eagles?
The Eagles have a vacancy for an offensive coordinator, defensive coordinator, and now a LB coach. While many believe that Brian Johnson is a lock for the OC position, it seems that the biggest question mark will be on the defensive side of the ball.
The team has requested an interview with the defensive assistant and assistant head coach of the Seattle Seahawks, Sean Desai. They have also been rumored to be interested in Vance Joseph but not many people find that to be a good idea.
