Their leading rusher reveals his plans for the 2024 season.

The leading rusher of the UMASS Minutemen reveals his plans for 2024.

Running back Kay’Ron Lynch-Adams initially declared for the 2024 NFL Draft in the first week of December. A week later, Lynch-Adams announced that he would enter the transfer portal. After another month of thinking through his plans, he announced that he would forgo the draft and the transfer portal and return to UMASS for the 2024 season.

Here’s what went down in his collegiate career.

He committed to Rutgers in 2019.

Kay’Ron Lynch-Adams committed to the Rutgers Scarlet Knights as a three-star recruit for the 2019 season.

Lynch-Adams appeared in nine games in 2019. He rushed for 161 yards on 48 carries and one rushing touchdown. He also had two receptions for 47 yards.

Lynch-Adams appeared in nine games in 2020. He rushed for 159 yards on 35 carries and one rushing touchdown. He also had four receptions for 73 yards and one receiving touchdown.

He entered the transfer portal after the conclusion of the 2020 season.

He transferred to UMASS.

Kay’Ron Lynch-Adams transferred to UMASS for the 2021 season. Lynch-Adams appeared in seven games in 2021. He rushed for 114 yards on 39 carries and one rushing touchdown. He also had seven receptions for 43 yards.

Lynch-Adams appeared in 11 games in 2022. He rushed for 297 yards on 84 carries and one rushing touchdown. He also had two receptions for seven yards.

Lynch-Adams took over as the starting running back and appeared in 12 games in 2023. He rushed for 1,157 yards on 236 carries and 12 rushing touchdowns. He also had 20 receptions for 118 yards. Lynch-Adams was named to College Football Network’s All-Independent Offense Team and Phil Steele’s All-Independent Team.

The impact of returning to UMASS.

Kay’Ron Lynch-Adams sticking around for another season at UMASS positively impacts the team because he is their best running back. Lynch-Adams had an excellent season last year, and he increases their chances of winning.

Lynch-Adams sticking around for another season will likely positively impact his draft stock for 2025. There is a high likelihood that he decided not to declare for the 2024 draft because there was a possibility that he wouldn’t get drafted. His draft stock could improve if he has a better season than last year.

The only negative of him returning to UMASS and not transferring to a power-5 school is that some scouts might not give him a high grade because he’s not in a power-5 school.
