The NFL's special Super Bowl Field was a dud

Going into Super Bowl LVII there was a lot made about the field the NFL had prepared for Sunday's game.

It turned out to be a mess, as players spent the entire game slipping and losing their footing all night.

It was from a local sod farm in Arizona and took two years to be grown, all at a cost of over $800,000.

It probably did not produce the results the NFL wanted.

From the very beginning of the game, it was clear that footing was going to be a problem, and several Eagles players, including starting quarterback Jalen Hurts, changed cleats after the first quarter.

Playing surfaces have been a huge topic of discussion in the NFL this season as several players have pushed for the league to make grass playing surfaces mandatory to improve player safety. That started after several major leg injuries happened on field turf playing surfaces.
Grass has always been regarded as the safer option when it comes to injuries.

The NFL obviously went all out on trying to get the best possible surface for its biggest game of the year. It just did not work out as planned.
