The one issue Cowboys offense must solve before the playoffs

While the Dallas Cowboys have one of the most dynamic offenses in the NFL, it's apparent they must solve one glaring issue before the playoffs.

In Saturday's 20-19 victory over the Detroit Lions (11-5), the Cowboys (11-5) rushed for 61 yards on 21 attempts, their second-lowest figure this season. Starting RB Tony Pollard has only averaged 3.5 yards per carry over his past five games, per StatMuse.

"The Cowboys are explosive on offense. We can all see that," former head coach Jay Gruden said in a video posted to the 33rd Team's website. "However, I'm still concerned about the one dimension right now. I still don't think they're getting enough out of their run game or Tony Pollard."

Not all blame falls on Pollard. Following the win over the Lions, Dallas All-Pro right guard Zack Martin acknowledged their run blocking has room for improvement.

"Look, [Detroit has] a good run defense, but we've got to always be going forward," Martin said, per ESPN's Todd Archer. "We can't put [quarterback Dak] Prescott and coach in those second-and-12s, second-and-11s. It's hard to call plays when it's those down and distances. So we've got to do a better job upfront. They won't be home runs all the time, but we've got to get some positive plays."

Prescott — an MVP candidate, per FanDuel — has played some of the best football of his career this season. Through 16 games, he leads the NFL in passing TDs (32).

Still, teams that win Super Bowls have rushing attacks that take pressure off of their QB and step up in the playoffs. Last season, the Kansas City Chiefs averaged 114.7 rushing yards per game en route to their third title. The Cowboys rushing attack must regain its rhythm to spark a deep postseason run.
