The Cardinals may have won the 2023 NFL draft with one genius move in the first round.

By trading away their #3 overall pick to the Houston Texans and, in return, receiving the Texans 2024 first round pick, the Cardinals now have all the leverage in the world this time next year.

Not only will Arizona have their likely high draft pick in 2024 (unless they surprise everyone), but Arizona will also receive the Texans’, at the very least, top-10 draft pick.

Both the Cardinals and the Texans are projected to be the two worst teams in the NFL next season.

And Monti Ossenfort holds both draft picks.

But the Texans draft pick in 2024 is not just any ordinary draft pick. This is because the 2024 draft includes Heisman winner QB Caleb Williams along with a whole bunch more QB talent that teams are drooling over.

The list of teams that will be interested in Williams seems to be ever-growing. Already, there are at least five that will use whatever means necessary to get their franchise guy, including:

  • Atlanta Falcons
  • New Orleans Saints
  • Washington Commanders
  • Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The 2023 draft was expected to be the draft of quarterbacks; however, it seems that teams are waiting one more season before pulling the trigger.

Some notable names coming up in the 2024 draft (besides Caleb Williams) include:

  • Shedeur Sanders, Colorado
  • J.J. McCarthy, Michigan
  • Drake Maye, North Carolina
  • Jayden Daniels, LSU
  • Quinn Ewers, Texas

In total, the Cardinals own 11 picks in next year’s draft, including six in the top three rounds.

These picks alone led ESPN’s Adam Schefter to note, “The Arizona Cardinals could control the 2024 draft.”

Overall, the draft was a success and a sigh of relief for fans across Arizona. Monti Ossenfort and the rest of the Cardinals front office proved their talent and showed the fanbase that they are here to stay.
