The Seattle Seahawks had several opportunities to improve at quarterback.

They could have gone that route in the 2022 NFL Draft or traded for someone like a Baker Mayfield or Jimmy Garoppolo.

But they stuck with what they have after getting Geno Smith back and getting Drew Lock via a trade with the Denver Broncos.

Jacob Eason makes their quarterback depth chart three-deep.

However, their rotation in that position is still uncertain due to a couple of updates.

NFL Network national insider Ian Rapoport gave some updates regarding Smith and Lock.

He tweeted that Smith banged his knee but could have returned.

On the other hand, Lock was really sick with COVID.

He can exit the protocol on Sunday and the thought was Lock would start in Week 3.

However, Lock isn’t healthy as well, leaving a void in the team’s rotation.

Smith Has The Slight Upper Hand

Lock and Smith have been engaged in a close battle for the starting role throughout training camp and preseason.

The competition is very close that they had nearly identical numbers during their preseason game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Smith had ten completions for 101 yards while Lock had 11 passes for 102 yards and two touchdowns.

The former West Virginia standout has a slight edge over Lock given his familiarity with Pete Carroll’s system.

He could press on with that advantage especially if Lock won’t be able to play in their next preseason game.

Last season, he filled in for Russell Wilson when he dislocated his finger.

He played four games and finished with 702 yards and five touchdowns.

Meanwhile, Lock played six games for the Broncos last year, finishing with 787 yards and two touchdowns.

Aside from him, tight end Noah Fant and defensive lineman Shelby Harris were also traded to Seattle as part of the Wilson trade.
