The Seattle Seahawks have designated starting right tackle Abraham Lucas for return from injured reserve. Lucas suffered a knee injury in the third quarter of Week 1. It was initially thought that he was dealing with soreness in his patella, but it’s much worse as he is dealing with chronic pain in his knee.
He underwent a knee procedure, and Seattle placed him on injured reserve on September 13.
Lucas must practice within three weeks before he can be activated.
The Seattle Seahawks tackle played college football at Washington State.
Lucas committed to Washington State over Oregon State and Wyoming as a three-star recruit for the 2017 season. He redshirted in his freshman season. He won the starting right tackle job in his redshirt freshman season. He was named second-team All-Pac-12 Conference and a Freshman All-American by USA Today.
He started every game as a redshirt sophomore and was named to second-team All-Pac-12.
He appeared in every game during the COVID-shortened season as a redshirt junior and was named second-team All-Conference and first-team All-Pac-12 by the Associated Press.
He returned for his redshirt senior season and was named first-team All-Pac-12.
During his tenure with Washington State, Lucas recorded over 2,195 pass-blocking snaps, earning a 91 PFF grade. He declared for the 2022 NFL Draft.

The Seattle Seahawks drafted Abraham Lucas in the 3rd round, 72nd overall, in the 2022 NFL Draft. He signed a 4-year, $5,391,678 rookie contract with a $1,101,220 signing bonus and $1,101,220 guaranteed on May 22, 2022.
Lucas’ rookie season.
He won the starting job at right tackle. He started in 16 games during his rookie season, recording seven penalties and nine sacks with a 68.5 PFF Grade. He missed Week 17 with a knee injury but returned to action in Week 18 and the Wild Card round of the playoffs.
Who filled in for the injured Lucas?
Jake Curham filled in for Lucas during Weeks 2-6, and Stone Forsythe has started the last four weeks. 41-year-old future Hall of Famer Jason Peters has alternated with Forsythe in the last three games.
Will Lucas return for Week 11?
Although Lucas practiced on Wednesday, Seattle is going to be cautious. Here’s what Pete Carroll had to say about whether he fully recovered from his injury:
“No. We just made it to the time when he can come to practice. Don’t know that yet. He can’t rehab anymore to get ready, he’s ready to go. We’ve been very careful to do that properly and take our time, but we need to see how the rigors of the practice figures into it all and see how he bounces back. It’s been kind of a chronic thing; you have to make sure you’ve left it in the past. We’ll see what happens.”
If Lucas plays this season, expect it to be a while for him to return to the starting lineup. In the meantime, expect Seattle to continue to start Stone Forsythe and alternate him with Jason Peters.
