Houston Texans wide receiver Brandin Cooks Robert Deutsch-USA TODAY Sports

The Kansas City Chiefs did a wonderful job recreating themselves during the 2022 season offensively. Some people believed the team would fall off without wide receiver Tyreek Hill, but the opposite occurred. Not only did the Chiefs stay afloat, they also thrived.

Kansas City was once again unstoppable, led by another MVP performance by Patrick Mahomes. The team did a wonderful job adding a ton of talent to their offense to help replace Hill.

JuJu Smith-Schuster, Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Justin Watson were all signed in free agency. Skyy Moore was drafted in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft, and the Chiefs acquired Kadarius Toney from the New York Giants during the season.

This offseason, the Chiefs are going to have to reload the offense once again. Smith-Schuster has departed in free agency, leaving a huge void in their offense. While Moore and Toney will be relied upon to take on larger roles in the offense, adding another veteran wouldn’t be a bad idea.

One player who would fit their needs is Brandin Cooks. Cooks has been seeking a trade from the Houston Texans, which are in the very early stages of a rebuild. Trade talks centered around him ahead of the deadline in November, but the asking price was very high and his contract was too big to fit into many team’s salary books.

Cooks would give the Chiefs a deep threat for their offense to replace the speed and deep threat that Hill provided to the team. What could it cost to land Cooks in Kansas City? A suggested trade package is a second and fifth-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, No. 63 and 166 overall, in exchange for the veteran wide receiver.

Adding another reliable pass catcher would go a long way for the Chiefs as they should be looking to take some of the workload off of Travis Kelce. Cooks is a bona fide No. 1 receiver, surpassing the 1,000-yard mark six times in nine seasons, and he is looking to get his career back on track after a lackluster 2022 season.
