Three teams that should try to trade up for a QB in the 2024 NFL Draft

The 2024 NFL Draft is looking like it could be one of the deeper quarterback classes in recent memory, and that could create the possibility for some big trades as teams try to find their next QB.

NFL.com's Daniel Jeremiah recently speculated that as many as four or five teams could be looking to move up to select a signal-caller. Not only because this class is strong, but also because next year's class is not looking as deep.

Chicago (No. 1), Washington (No. 2) and New England (No. 3) all seem likely to take quarterbacks with their picks.

But would any of them consider moving back? The Bears are reportedly seeking a "historic" haul to even consider passing on a No. 1 quarterback two years in a row, while it would also probably take a massive offer to get the Commanders or Patriots to bite given their quarterback needs.

Caleb Williams (USC), Drake Maye (North Carolina) and Jayden Daniels (LSU) are strong candidates to go in those top three spots no matter which teams make the picks.

The more realistic trade intrigue might be when it comes to the second-tier quarterbacks, including Michigan's J.J. McCarthy and Oregon's Bo Nix.

So which teams should consider a move up? Here are three that should strongly consider it.

Atlanta Falcons

Unless the Falcons absolutely love McCarthy or Nix at the No. 8 spot, they should be one of the teams that aggressively tries to make a bold move up to the top of the draft.

The NFC South is extremely winnable, and the Falcons could be in that mix if they land the right quarterback — especially given some of the skill position players they have on offense. The Desmond Ridder experience has been an underwhelming failure and they need to find a way to take a big swing to find their long-term answer.

Minnesota Vikings

The Vikings are almost certainly going to lose veteran Kirk Cousins in free agency, leaving a massive hole in their offense as none of Joshua Dobbs, Nick Mullens or Jaren Hall figure to be long-term answers.

With Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison at wide receiver, the Vikings can not risk wasting their prime years with sub-par quarterback play. They have the No. 11 overall pick and nine picks overall, so there could be some trade capital there to make a move.

Seattle Seahawks

This is a real wild-card team in this discussion. Geno Smith is a fine stop-gap solution, but he is probably not a true long-term answer and he is probably not going to be the quarterback that makes them a Super Bowl contender.

They own the No. 16 overall pick which also puts them into some sort of a gray area when it comes to the quarterback options. They are clearly out of range for the Williams, Maye, Daniels trio, and might not have a chance to land McCarthy or Nix depending on how the draft unfolds.

This might be a strong opportunity to move up into the top 10, take McCarthy or Nix, and let that pick sit and watch for a year behind Smith.
