Three-time Super Bowl champion LeGarrette Blount announces retirement
After nine NFL seasons and three Super Bowl championships, LeGarrette Blount has called it a career.
The former New England Patriots running back announced his retirement via Instagram on Friday night, saying:
"What’s good everyone? I just want to inform y’all that I’m officially retiring. I have thought long and hard about this decision, and I’ve talked to my closest family members and friends about this. We collectively agreed on this decision. It is in the best interest of me and my family."
Blount won the Super Bowl twice with New England and once with the Philadelphia Eagles. Going undrafted in 2010, then-Tennessee Titans coach Jeff Fisher signed Blount to the team's 53-man roster, though he was waived shortly after. Blount later played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, where he saw his first on-field action and spent three seasons, the Pittsburgh Steelers and Detroit Lions.
The 34-year-old appeared in 132 career regular-season games, rushing for 6,306 yards and 56 touchdowns with 454 yards and two touchdowns receiving. In 11 postseason games, Blount had 140 carries for 600 yards and 11 touchdowns.
He last appeared in an NFL game for the Lions in 2018.
