The Tennessee Titans acquired cornerback L’Jarius Sneed in a trade with the Kansas City Chiefs earlier this week, and now, they have signed him to a contract extension.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL media, the Titans have agreed to a four-year, $76.4 million deal with Sneed. The deal features $55 million in guaranteed money and makes Sneed one of the highest-paid cornerbacks in football.

Tennessee landed Sneed for a third-round draft pick.

The Chiefs initially slapped a franchise tag on Sneed earlier this offseason, but the expectation right from the beginning was that they would be trading the defensive back.

Kansas City had to use up a significant amount of cash to re-sign defensive lineman Chris Jones, which made retaining Sneed difficult.

The Chiefs could have allowed Sneed to play out 2024 on the tag, but it would have cost Kansas City $19.8 million, and that was a price that the club did not want to pay.

Sneed is coming off of a terrific 2023 campaign in which he played 16 games and registered 78 tackles, a couple of interceptions, a fumble recovery and 14 passes defended. He did not allow a touchdown all season.

The 27-year-old, who played his collegiate football at Louisiana Tech, was selected by the Chiefs in the fourth round of the 2020 NFL Draft.

Injuries limited Sneed to nine games during his rookie year, but the following season, he made 15 starts and recorded 76 tackles, a sack, a pair of picks, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery and eight passes defended.

Then, in 2022, Sneed broke out, racking up 108 tackles, 3.5 sacks, three interceptions, three forced fumbles, a fumble recovery and 11 passes defended.

While L’Jarius Sneed has never made a Pro Bowl, he has developed into one of the better corners in the league.
