The Tennessee Titans and general manager Ran Carthon are covering every base when it comes to the 2024 NFL Draft. The Titans, who currently hold the No. 7 overall pick in the draft, are turning over every stone in order to navigate the most unpredictable event on the NFL calendar.
With a top-10 pick in his arsenal, Carthon will either draft a player to fill a significant roster need, or trade back in the first round. With multiple roster concerns yet to be properly addressed, it's difficult to ignore the possibility of moving back while acquiring more draft capital in the process.
The Titans are preparing for any and every possible outcome. In doing so, the team has already brought in quite a mix of players for top-30 visits. Tennessee added to that list on Monday with Alabama cornerback Terrion Arnold arriving in Music City on Monday, according to NFL.com's Ian Rapoport.
Arnold is thought to be a mid-first-round prospect, though some draft analysts believe him to be the top cornerback in the class. In fact, Arnold tops the charts at the cornerback position in A to Z Sports' 2024 NFL Big Board curated by James Foster.
Now the Titans did go out and spend heavily at the position in the free agency period. Newly signed cornerbacks L'Jarius Sneed and Chidobe Awuzie will start on the outside in 2024. Roger McCreary is slotted to start at the nickel position and figures to round out one of the better cornerback trios in the NFL.
With that being said, Arnold is skilled enough to make any one of his 32 potential landing spots better upon arrival. He possesses skills in man coverage as well as zone. His aggressiveness combined with his ball skills suggest an exciting ceiling.
Not only is Arnold tough against the pass, but he's stout against the run as well. In 2023, Arnold ranked first amongst cornerbacks in college football with a 90.5 PFF grade in run defense.
Tallying 12 pass breakups and five interceptions in his final season in Tuscaloosa, Arnold's abilities shined through against the best competition at the college level. If that isn't enough, he also boosted his stock by winning every rep in 1-on-1s at the Senior Bowl.
Though cornerback is no longer a pressing need in Tennessee, Arnold is the type of talent that would fit the best player available theory. If the Titans do elect to trade back into the teens, Arnold should be a player the team considers as Carthon and Co. continue to build for the future.
