Titans HC reveals plan for QB Will Levis to avoid big hits

Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Vrabel explained Tuesday how he plans to teach rookie quarterback Will Levis to slide at the end of scrambles, rather than lower his shoulders into defenders.

Levis had a highlight-reel five-yard run in the second quarter of the team's Week 14 "Monday Night Football" win over the Miami Dolphins after escaping the clutches of Pro Bowl edge rusher Bradley Chubb on a would-be sack. Levis ended the scamper by trucking Jalen Ramsey, which likely put a scare into Vrabel and the rest of the organization.

"I guess we'll have to show him examples of quarterbacks not sliding and getting the s--t knocked out of them," the coach said, per Paul Kuharsky.

The Kentucky product may have impressed fans with his toughness, and the team ended up scoring a touchdown three plays later, but Vrabel and the rest of the coaching staff know that it's a subject they have to address.

In a game filled with mistakes on both sides and an injury scare to Miami wideout Tyreek Hill, the host Dolphins held what seemed like an insurmountable 27-13 with only three minutes left in the contest.

That's when Levis heated up, leading the offense on a pair of touchdown drives (plus a two-point conversion) to pull off the 28-27 shocker. The comeback snapped a seven-year, 767-game losing streak for teams down by 14 points in the final three minutes of a game.

The Newton, Ma. native recovered from an early pick-six to record career highs in completions (23) and passing yards (327).
