Titans' Jeffery Simmons admits he’s already slid into DeAndre Hopkins’ DMs

Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Vrabel told reporters on Wednesday afternoon that he doesn’t plan to make a recruiting pitch to free agent receiver DeAndre Hopkins when he visits with the team on Sunday.

Titans defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons, on the other hand, has made no such promises. During an appearance on “NFL Total Access” on Wednesday, Simmons let it be known he’s already reached out to Hopkins about joining him in Tennessee.

“Of course, I’ve already hit the DMs like, ‘Come on with it. You already know what’s up.,’” Simmons said . “I know the type of player he is, been able to play against him … and just to watch the film — DeAndre Hopkins, that’s the guy we’ve got to stop. Everyone has a lot of respect for DeAndre Hopkins. He’s been around the game for a long time, his playmaking ability and, I’m sure, his leadership and the type of teammate he is, is the reason why everybody wants him on their team. I’d love him on our team … and not to rebuild, to help us get some wins this year.”

Simmons saw firsthand just what Hopkins is capable of, playing against him once while he was with Tennessee’s AFC South rival the Houston Texans and once with the Arizona Cardinals

Hopkins logged 12 receptions for 202 yards and two touchdowns. The Titans lost both of those games, including a 38-13 loss to Arizona in the 2021 season opener.

The Titans are the first team Hopkins is visiting, per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. The Kansas City Chiefs and Buffalo Bills are also reportedly interested in making a run at Hopkins, per CBS Sports.
