Titans releasing seven-time Pro Bowl WR Julio Jones

The Tennessee Titans were hoping that trading with the Atlanta Falcons for seven-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Julio Jones last year would give them a formidable one-two punch in the passing attack that featured Jones and fellow star pass-catcher A.J. Brown. Instead, the Titans completed a one-and-done playoff journey and are ending the experiment after one season.

ESPN's Adam Schefter and Dianna Russini reported Wednesday afternoon that the Titans plan to release Jones. Per Kevin Patra of the NFL's website, Tennessee will save $9.513 million in cash and salary-cap space for 2022 by designating Jones a post-June 1 cut.

Injury woes limited Jones to just 10 regular-season games during his only campaign with Tennessee, and the 33-year-old more so resembled a slowed and beaten-up version of himself than an All-Pro when on the field. He recorded just 31 catches for 434 yards and a single touchdown over those 10 contests but did manage to tally six receptions for 62 yards in the postseason loss to the eventual AFC champion Cincinnati Bengals.

Jones will now look to show would-be buyers he still has plenty left in the figurative tank.
