Titans releasing WR Adam Humphries

The relationship between the Tennessee Titans and wide receiver Adam Humphries is over after a pair of underwhelming seasons.

NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reported on Thursday that the Titans are releasing Humphries. The move saves the club roughly $4.47 million in salary-cap space. Humphries was signed through 2022 but was likely to be a salary-cap casualty even before Christmas.

The 27-year-old played in seven games last season and was placed on injured reserve on Dec. 8 due to lingering issues related to a concussion. Humphries missed four contests during the campaign because of the head injury and returned only for a loss to the Cleveland Browns on Dec. 6.

He ended the season with career lows in receptions (23) and receiving yards (228).

Humphries recorded 76 catches for 816 yards and five touchdowns with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2018 and could attract interest from a contender looking to acquire a proven receiver on a team-friendly deal. There's always a concern with any player who misses significant time due to concussion-related setbacks, though, and his status for training-camp sessions is up in the air as March approaches.

As ESPN's Turron Davenport noted, the Titans and Humphries agreed to a four-year, $36 million contract in 2019.
