Titans reportedly frustrated by 'lack of engagement' in talks with Jadeveon Clowney

With the NFL season just a week away, Jadeveon Clowney remains a free agent and it appears he is in no rush to join a team by the start of the season, as the Titans are rumored to be disappointed by the"lack of engagement" with the pass rusher.

According to Yahoo Sports' Charles Robinson, Clowney has been mostly uninvolved in talks with teams pursuing him. The Titans were hoping to bring him in for a physical to move the process forward but Clowney has been largely unresponsive.

The issue for Clowney appears to be financial, as he believes he deserves top tier pass rusher money while few teams have shown interest in paying him that much. He turned down an offer from the Cleveland Browns that reportedly was worth $17-18 million per year and that seems to be the best offer he has received. The Seahawks and Titans, who are believed to be the two teams most likely to land Clowney, are both offering him around $12 million per year.

While Clowney is an undeniable talent, he is injury prone and has not consistently produced at an elite level during his 6 seasons in the NFL. He has only played all 16 games once in his career and has never reached double-digit sacks in a single season.

If Clowney is unwilling to engage in serious talks with teams without a lucrative offer, it may be a while before he sees the field. But Clowney may be willing to miss time with the hope that a team like the Titans become desperate and sign him for the money he feels he deserves.
