NASHVILLE -- The Tennessee Titans are looking to add some talent to the wide receiver room, and they've recently turned to a former Tennessee Volunteers wide out to make it happen.
According to NFL Reporter Aaron Wilson, the Titans have hosted former Vols standout Marquez Callaway for a workout.
Callaway played in Knoxville for four seasons from 2016-2019 where he totaled 1,646 career receiving yards, 13 touchdown catches, and three punt return touchdowns.
Despite Callaway being a dangerous special teamer and productive offensive threat as a senior at Tennessee, he went undrafted in the 2020 NFL Draft. Callaway would sign with the New Orleans Saints as an undrafted free agent and carve out a role for himself on the roster.
In 2021, Callaway posted a career-best 46 catches for 698 receiving yards and six touchdowns. He proved that he not only belonged on an NFL roster, but could be a valuable piece of an NFL offense.
But in 2022, the Saints brought in Chris Olave in the first round of the draft, signed Jarvis Landry in free agency, and found a hidden gem in UDFA Rashid Shaheed. Callaway's snaps got cut in half, and his production dropped off with it.
Callaway would then sign a contract with the Denver Broncos in the 2023 offseason, but would be cut by the team after training camp before a brief practice squad stint with the Las Vegas Raiders.
Signing Callaway makes all the sense in the world for the Titans right now. Tennessee could absolutely use some speed in the wide receiver room, and Callaway would also provide another punt return option. Any player who has special teams value but has also had NFL success on offense is worth taking a flyer on.
