For the first time since 2009, former ESPN NFL analyst Todd McShay will not provide NFL Draft coverage. On Friday, McShay explained why he won’t be a part of the annual event.

“Just want to take a minute to say thank you!” McShay wrote. “The outpouring of support during draft season has been noticed and greatly appreciated. As for next week’s draft, I’m sitting this one out on TV due to obvious contract limitations but it’s business as usual around here!  You can catch me on God Bless Football today, as well as @PardonMyTake and @ryenrussillo podcast next week.”

ESPN fired McShay during its substantial round of layoffs in June 2023. He began working at ESPN in 2006. When McShay referenced contract limitations, he’s likely referring to a contract buyout from ESPN that prevents him from covering the event for other networks.

“Thanks again for all the support and inquiries on where to find me during the 2024 draft,” McShay said. “I can’t wait to get back out there and will keep you posted on what’s coming next!”

Who is covering the 2024 NFL Draft?

While Todd McShay won’t be covering the 2024 NFL Draft for ESPN, the outlet boasts no shortage of reputable names.

Reece Davis will lead the way and will be joined by notable personalities such as Kirk Herbstreit, Desmond Howard and Nick Saban. The rest of the lineup includes Laura Rutledge, Field Yates and Pete Thamel. This team will be seen on the draft coverage airing on ABC.

The ESPN team includes Mike Greenberg, Mel Kiper Jr. Booger McFarland, Louis Riddick, Molly McGrath and Adam Schefter. Additionally, ESPN will have six reporters stationed at teams facilities across the country – including at the locations of the teams with the top three picks. The ESPN reporters are Courtney Cronin (Chicago Bears), Jeff Darlington (Minnesota Vikings), Kimberly A. Martin (Washington Commanders), Sal Paolantonio (New York Giants), Mike Reiss (New England Patriots) and Ed Werder (Denver Broncos).

The first night of the draft will start on Thursday, April 25 at 8 p.m. ET. The second night will be on Friday, April 26 at 7 p.m. ET and the final day will be on Saturday, April 27, at 12 p.m. ET. The first two nights will air on ESPN and ABC. On the third day, ESPN’s presentation will be simulcast on ABC.

Along with the traditional coverage, ESPN is providing a third option – The Pat McAfee Show Draft Spectacular – that will air on YouTube, TikTok, the ESPN App and ESPN+ on Thursday, April 26. Pat McAfee and his crew will give their take on the draft and will have special guests that will be announced in the coming days.
