The Tampa Bay Buccaneers earned a hard-fought 31-23 victory over the Washington Football Team on Saturday night.
Heading into the outing, Washington Football Team defensive end Chase Young had some choice words for Brady. Young said on a Zoom session with the media last Wednesday:
“I play ball. I’m excited to go against the best. The media, their job is to stir it up. If you know me, I’m excited for every game. Tom Brady, you think I’m not excited to play against the GOAT? You trippin’. I’m not going to apologize for saying I want Tom. No, I want every quarterback I play against.”
So how did all that ultimately work out for Young? Not especially well. Brady finished Saturday night with 381 yards and two touchdowns, while Young recorded a mere three tackles, none for a loss, with no sacks and zero quarterback hits — despite playing in 63 of Washington’s 72 defensive snaps.
After the game, Brady finally acknowledged that he had heard Young’s initial comments and offered up a two-word message for the Washington Football Team defensive end.
“Bright future,” he said.
The classy reaction from Brady was to be expected. Dating back to his time with the New England Patriots, he has always been able to show due respect to defensive players who want to challenge him.
Quarterbacks? Eh, not so much.
While the Washington Football Team’s season came to a close on Saturday, the Buccaneers will keep on slowly marching toward a Super Bowl slot.
Next up: Tampa Bay will meet either the New Orleans Saints or the Los Angeles Rams in the divisional round.
If the Saints prevail, then L.A. becomes the lowest remaining seed in the NFC and is forced to travel to Lambeau to square off against the Green Bay Packers. In that scenario, the Bucs would then go back to the Superdome to face the Saints for the third time this season.
Should the Chicago Bears upset New Orleans, Tampa Bay would then host the next round of the playoffs. In that scenario, the Bucs play the Rams and the Bears head to Green Bay instead.
