Tom Brady chimes in on Patriots signing of Cam Newton

Former Patriots quarterback Tom Brady is enjoying himself in Tampa Bay, and while he's seemingly cut ties with many aspects of New England, No. 12 has seen his possible successor signed to a deal.

The Patriots signed Cam Newton to a one-year contract worth up to $7.5 million, and while there are no guarantees he becomes the starter, Brady chimed in via social media ... but he didn't necessarily have too much to say.

New England's signing of Newton came as a surprise to many, especially considering we heard news a while back about Bill Belichick having no interest in the former MVP and Newton himself likely not wanting to take a backup role.

All signs are pointing to Newton becoming the starter -- winning the job over second-year quarterback Jarrett Stidham -- unless, of course, he ends up injured.

Although the 31-year-old missed almost the entire 2019 campaign with a foot injury -- which, ironically, occurred during a preseason game against the Patriots -- he still put together an impressive 2018 season.

In 2018, the three-time Pro Bowler threw for 3,395 yards and 24 touchdowns while completing 67.9 percent of his passes -- the best completion percentage of his career. He also rushed for 488 yards and four touchdowns.

The Patriots quarterbacks room now consists of Newton, Stidham, Brian Hoyer, J'Mar Smith and Brian Lewerke. When it comes down to it, Newton and Stidham likely will be QB's 1 and 2 with Hoyer as No. 3 in case Newton ends up injured.

New England wasn't expected to win the AFC East title this coming season, but with Newton on the roster it becomes possible.
