Tom Brady explains role as Raiders minority owner

Seven-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady may have grown up a San Francisco 49ers fan, but now the 45-year-old invested in San Francisco’s former Bay Area rival, the Las Vegas Raiders, as a minority owner.

What exactly will Brady’s new role be, and how much will he be involved with the Raiders’ day-to-day? In a recent Q&A with the Associated Press, Brady touched on what his involvement with the franchise will be.

“I’ll be playing a very passive role,” Brady said. “This is something that I’m interested in doing for the rest of my life. This is not something that I’m into it for a year or two years. You know, I’ve got a lot of responsibility with my Fox job, which I take very seriously. But if I’m looking over the course of my life, to have the opportunity to be involved in the NFL is a dream come true. And if I could help the NFL and continue to contribute in a positive way, then you know, that’s been a very enjoyable part of my life.”

Brady is expected to me more of a behind-the-scenes owner, one who has no power or authority when it comes to football operations or hiring/firing decisions.

While his ownership stake in the Raiders isn’t a done deal just yet — Brady still needs approval from three-fourths (24) of the league’s other 31 owners — it’s all but expected that the deal will be finalized soon.

Vincent Bonsignore of the Las Vegas Review-Journal suggested that the owners may choose to approve Brady’s ownership stake in the franchise with the caveat that he can’t end his retirement to return and play for the Raiders.
