Tom Brady, Justin Fields to set new NFL record for largest age gap between starting QBs

To the surprise of absolutely nobody who continues to follow his unprecedented career, Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady is on the cusp of breaking yet another NFL record.

This time, it's a mark he set earlier this month.

As Michael David Smith explained for Pro Football Talk, this Sunday's game between the Buccaneers and Chicago Bears will feature a new largest age gap between starting quarterbacks in the history of the league. Brady celebrated his 44th birthday on Aug. 3, while Chicago rookie signal-caller Justin Fields turned 22 on March 5 of last year.

Brady was half of the duo that set the current record when he and Tampa Bay defeated first-round draft pick Mac Jones and the New England Patriots at Gillette Stadium on Oct. 3.

As was the case three weeks ago, Brady is on pace to have one more opportunity to break the new mark before the regular season ends. New York Jets rookie Zach Wilson was born Aug. 3, 1999, and, barring an unexpected development, will start versus Brady and Tampa Bay on Jan. 2, 2022.

As for this coming weekend, Brady may not have to worry about facing Bears pass-rusher Robert Quinn, who reportedly tested positive for COVID-19 on Tuesday. Quinn is ninth in the NFL with 5.5 sacks on the season.
