Tom Brady on extension with Buccaneers: 'We're keeping the band together'
ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Friday that Tom Brady and the Buccaneers agreed to a contract extension that will tie him to Tampa Bay through the 2022 season.
Later in the day, Brady confirmed the news via social media and essentially admitted to reworking his deal in order to give the Buccaneers more cap space to re-sign some key free agents.
Brady's extension saves the Buccaneers $19 million against the 2021 cap and that money will likely be used to re-sign Rob Gronkowski, Shaquill Barrett, Leonard Fournette and Antonio Brown, among others.
Tampa Bay has already re-signed Lavonte David and announced the re-signing of linebacker Kevin Minter on Friday.
Brady will turn 44 in August and is considering playing past age 45.
