Tom Brady playing only in his 40s would be Bears' all-time leading passer

It's kind of fun to rip on the Chicago Bears right now. They've always been known as a defensive-minded organization, but their offensive ineptitude as of late has been stunning.

Cooper Kupp has more receptions this season than Bears quarterback Justin Field has passes completed. Chicago is averaging just 274.8 yards per game this season, which is second-worst in the league only to the Carolina Panthers. The Bears' 16 points per game offensively are also second-worst in the NFL, in front of only the Indianapolis Colts, averaging 14.3.

Oh, there's also that stat Packers fans like to trot out from time to time. The Bears have had 36 different starting quarterbacks take the reins of the offense ever since Brett Favre got his first start in Green Bay back in 1992. The Packers have mostly been captained by Favre and Aaron Rodgers during that time period — one Hall of Famer and one soon-to-be Hall of Famer.

Only Matt Flynn (six), Brett Hundley (nine), Scott Tolzien (two), Seneca Wallace (one) and Jordan Love (one) have started in Green Bay otherwise in that time, and all of those starts were due to injury to Rodgers. That's 19 starts between the five quarterbacks. Rodgers or Favre have had the rest.

You can now add this obscure fact to the table if you plan on making fun of Chicago's offensive ineptitude in the future. Brendan Sugrue, who covers the team, somehow deduced that even if we just took Tom Brady's stats from the time he turned 40, he would be Chicago's all-time leading passer.

That's truly something. Oh, it should be noted that the Bears are 2-2 this season, so it's not like the sky is falling in Matt Eberflus' first year as head coach.

Without a doubt, though, the offense in Chicago needs to find a way to step up. That's apparently been a trend for a very long time.
