Damontae Kazee Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

Pittsburgh Steelers defensive back Damontae Kazee has been suspended over a hit he delivered during Saturday’s game, and you may be surprised to hear one NFL legend’s opinion on the disciplinary action.

The NFL announced on Monday that Kazee has been suspended for the remainder of the season. Kazee delivered a helmet-to-helmet hit on Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. (video here) during Pittsburgh’s 30-13 loss to the Colts. Kazee has also been fined multiple times this season for unnecessary roughness, which factored into the suspension.

Shortly after the ban was announced, Tom Brady took to Instagram to defend Kazee. The seven-time Super Bowl champion said it is “flat out wrong” to only blame the defensive player for a play like the Kazee hit.

“Nobody likes seeing players get hurt. But hard hits happen,” Brady wrote. “QBs should not be throwing the ball in areas where they are exposing their own teammates to these types of hits. Coaches need to coach better. QBs need to read coverages and throw the ball to the right places and defenders should aim for the right hitting areas. To put the blame on the defense (sic) player all the time is just flat out wrong. Need better QB play!! It’s not OK QBs to get your WRs hit because of your bad decisions!”

While Gardner Minshew might not appreciate Brady’s stance, it is hardly a new one.

Brady said last month that he is frustrated with all the “mediocrity” he sees across the NFL. The former quarterback surprised many people by saying the league has gone too soft with protecting offensive players. Brady also shared a similar complaint while he was still playing.
