The Dallas Cowboys are in need of some help on the defensive line, and they may have to do so via the trade market.

The Cowboys ranked 13th in the NFL in sacks this past season, but in order to remain among the league's elite units, they are going to have to gain some reinforcements who supplement the pass rush by run-stopping.

Bleacher Report suggested the idea of trading for New England Patriots defensive tackle Davon Godchaux.

"Finding another veteran who could take on a run-stuffing role could help the Cowboys take the next step. That's why calling the Patriots about Davon Godchaux is a good idea," Bleacher Report writes. "At 6-3 and 330 pounds, Godchaux is the kind of run-stuffing nose tackle who should serve as a baseline for what the Cowboys hope Smith becomes. If he can offer even higher pass-rushing upside, then he could live up to his first-round draft pedigree."

Godchaux, 29, recorded 56 tackles for the Patriots this past season, a smidge below from what he was able to produce in his first two seasons in New England.

The Cowboys are hoping to retain free agent Johnathan Hankins here. And they have 2023 first-round pick Mazi Smith in case they aren't able to make a trade, but he didn't live up to his high hopes this past season, recording just 13 tackles in 17 games.

Ultimately, adding some beef and experience to the Cowboys' defensive line is necessary if Mike Zimmer's defense is going to have success in the upcoming season, and perhaps Godchaux throwing his weight around is the solution to the problem.
