Trading for three-time All-Pro WR makes sense for Giants
The New York Giants could solve their problem at wide receiver by trading for Arizona Cardinals three-time All-Pro DeAndre Hopkins, who reportedly is on the trade block.
Per CBS Sports, Hopkins had the no-trade clause in his contract voided after being suspended six games in 2022 due to PEDs.
Pro Football Focus recently projected a mock trade in which Hopkins landed in the Big Apple for the Giants' second and fifth-round picks in the 2023 NFL Draft. In the trade, New York acquired Hopkins and the two years and $34.356 million on his contract (no money guaranteed).
Hopkins played in only 19 games over the past two seasons in Arizona following a dominant 2020 season in which he put up 1,407 yards receiving yards and six touchdown catches in 16 games. At 30, Hopkins is entering the twilight of his career.
The Giants could target Hopkins while his asking price is at an all-time low, being that the WR is on the wrong side of 30 and played in a career-low nine games in 2022. Hopkins did, however, post 64 receptions for 717 yards and three touchdown catches.
After QB Kyler Murray suffered a season-ending knee injury in December, Hopkins played with middling backup QBs.
Hopkins would instantly become the Giants' primary receiving threat. If free agent Daniel Jones re-signs with New York, Hopkins could become the explosive, play-making wideout the QB has lacked throughout his Giants tenure.
