Trevor Lawrence: Jaguars 'close' to turning things around after 0-2 start

An 0-2 start to the NFL season is, obviously, not what Trevor Lawrence and the Jacksonville Jaguars had in mind.

However, the first-overall draft pick insists the two losses to start the season aren't an indication of how the team's entire 2021 campaign is going to go.

"We're close," Lawrence said via the Jaguars website after Sunday's 23-13 loss to the Denver Broncos. "Last week and this week doesn't look that great when you look at the numbers, but we just have to make a few more plays and stick together."

True, Lawrence isn't the first rookie quarterback to come under scrutiny after a rough start to his professional football career. As ProFootballTalk reminds us, there is a learning curve for all first-time NFLers.

Still, it's hard to not put Lawrence under a microscope now that he has posted back-to-back losses for the first time in his entire life. While the team around him has made its fair share of mistakes in the first two weeks of the season, it was the Clemson product's two interceptions against Denver on Sunday that really stood out and took Jacksonville from a 7-3 lead in the first quarter to a resounding defeat.

Not surprisingly, Lawrence is shouldering the blame.

"You work all week to win and when you don’t, it’s disappointing. But I feel like I’m in a good spot," Lawrence said. "I’m the same person, the same mindset. Nothing’s changed. Making sure I keep my confidence every week is big, and I think I have that so we’re going to get better."

The Jaguars will host the Arizona Cardinals in Week 3.
