Former Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence  will be the first pick of the 2021 NFL Draft by the Jacksonville Jaguars later this month.

By now, it’s well-known that Lawrence is the consensus top player in a loaded class at quarterbacks. Once the Jaguars wrestled the No. 1 pick away from the New York Jets by losing 15 consecutive games to close last season, it became clear that he would be heading to Duval.

One week after marrying longtime girlfriend, Marissa Mowry, Lawrence seemed to confirm what we already knew would be the case. Check it his post on social media.

First off, congratulations are in order for Lawrence and Mowry. The two met in eighth grade and ended up attending Cartersville High School in Georgia together. They announced their engagement in July of last year, but pandemic-related issues seemed to postpone the nuptials.

From a football perspective, Lawrence will now join a one-win Jaguars team that just hired highly respected college football head coach Urban Meyer. It’s going to be fun to watch the former Clemson star quarterback act as the face of the franchise in Duval.

Once Lawrence is picked by Jacksonville, the expectation is that Zach Wilson will be the No. 2 selection to the New York Jets. Selecting No. 3 overall, the San Francisco 49ers have been linked to Justin Fields, Trey Lance and Mac Jones. In reality, that’s when the drama will start on draft night later this month.

As for Lawrence, he will not be in attendance in Chicago. He’d rather hang back with family and friends and watch the event from South Carolina. Who can blame him?
