Two-time Super Bowl champion LeSean McCoy signs one-day contract, retires with Eagles

After 12 NFL seasons, LeSean McCoy is hanging up the cleats.

The Philadelphia Eagles announced McCoy's decision on Thursday. He spent the first six seasons of his career with the Eagles and will sign a one-day contract with them on Friday so he can retire with the team he didn't ever want to part ways with.

"After 12 years in the NFL, I've decided to retire an Eagle because this is home to me," McCoy wrote in his retirement announcement on the Eagles' website. "I still have that green inside my heart. There are times when I'd see the Eagles on TV, and it just felt weird not wearing that uniform. I instantly think back to all of those big games and the roar of the fans; I've just always seen myself as an Eagle. It's only right to come back home and retire an Eagle."

McCoy, the Eagles' all-time leading rusher, will be honored at Philly's home game against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday.

The 53rd overall pick in the 2009 draft, McCoy was a two-time All-Pro and three-time Pro Bowler during his time with the Eagles. He led the NFL with 17 rushing touchdowns in 2011 and was the league's rushing champion in 2013 with 1,604 yards.

McCoy also caught 300 passes for 2,282 yards and 10 touchdowns during his Eagles career.

The 33-year-old also played for the Chiefs, Buffalo Bills and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He earned three Pro Bowls in his four seasons with the Bills. During his one season with Kansas City, he scored five touchdowns in 13 regular-season games while helping the Chiefs win their first Super Bowl since 1969.

McCoy won his second title as a member of the Buccaneers last season. He appeared in 10 regular-season games, rushing for 31 yards and catching 15 passes for 101 yards.

McCoy amassed 11,102 yards and 73 touchdowns rushing during his career and caught 518 passes for 3,898 yards and 16 touchdowns. In addition to six Pro Bowls and two All-Pro elections, McCoy also was named to the NFL's All-Decade Team for the 2010s.
